Mr. Phillip Douglas Paul, Sr., 69, died Saturday, February 4, 2012 in Carolinas Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Hunter officiating. Entombment will follow at Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends (Monday) from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Leavitt Funeral Home. Phillip was born in Anson County on January 16, 1943, a son of the late William and Sally Williams Paul. He worked for many years at West Knitting Mills and later retired from Carolina Apparel Group, Inc. as the Chief Executive Officer. Phillip was a faithful member of First Baptist Church having served as deacon. He enjoyed woodworking for a hobby and as a member of the Anson Swingers, enjoyed square-dancing in his earlier years. In his later years, he enjoyed yard work, spending time with his wife, kids, and grandkids at the beach, and collecting coins. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Matilda Gulledge Paul of the home; a son, Phillip Doug (Donna Meland) Paul Jr. of Wadesboro; a daughter, Tonjua Paul (Michael) Chapman of Lilesville; and four grandchildren, Miranda Paul, Brandon Paul, Julianna Chapman and Anneliese Chapman. Also surviving are two brothers, Bobby Paul Sr. of Wadesboro and Wade (Lena) Paul of Lilesville. In addition to his parents, Phillip was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister: William Paul, Luther Paul Sr., Lynwood Paul and Levenia Paul.
