Robert Lee Bobby Gathings, Jr.

Lilesville- Mr. Robert Lee "Bobby" Gathings, 68, died Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Bolivia, NC. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Monday, January 29, 2018 at Gum Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Knotts and Rev. Steve Hill officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Bobby was born October 23, 1949 in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late Robert Lee and Mary Alice Marks Gathings. He was employed as a truck driver having worked at Morven Freight lines Trucking, Fredrickson Motor Express and H.L. Henry Trucking before retiring due to his declining health. Surviving are his son, Michael Gathings and wife, Leigh Anna of Lilesville; his sister, Donna Ore of Sunset Beach, NC; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Brian Lee Gathings and wife, Faye Kantner Gathings. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions may be made to Leavitt Funeral Home, P.O. Box 274, Wadesboro, NC 28170, to assist with funeral expenses.
