GREENSBORO - On Saturday, December 30, 2023, Mr. Robert McLendon, 62, formerly of Polkton, passed away at his home.

Robert Harvey McLendon was born on January 1, 1961, in Polkton, N.C., to the late Sherman and Sadie Bernice Lindsey McLendon.  Robert attended Bowan High School and graduated in 1979.  Shortly after high school, he joined  and served in the United States Army from 1979 to 1982, where  he gained valuable skills.  Robert‘s extensive training in weaponry, combat vehicles, logistics, personnel management, and leadership resulted in a successful career as an infantryman. He also possessed various skills acquired through civilian life.

Robert was known for his honesty, loyalty, and adventurous spirit. One of Robert's greatest passions was traveling the world and immersing himself in different cultures. He found joy in exploring and experiencing various ways of life.   His love for traveling began during his military service and continued until his declining health restricted his adventures in recent years. Robert's presence at family functions always brought excitement, and he will be deeply missed.

Robert was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, parents, three brothers (Benjamin, Johnny, and Hubert), a brother in law (Jerry Polk), and one niece (Karen).
