Ronald Wilson Ronnie Chewning, Sr.

LILESVILLE Mr. Ronald Wilson "Ronnie" Chewning, Sr., 74, died Friday, August 17, 2018 at his home. Funeral services will be 3:00pm Sunday, August 19, 2018 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. James Hodges officiating. Interment will follow in Jowers Cemetery. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Ronnie was born December 23, 1943 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Woodrow Wilson Chewning and the late Edna Baker Chewning. He worked for a number of years at Hornwood in Lilesville and later for Gardenscape in Lilesville prior to his retirement. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Surviving are his children, Rhonda Chewning Durden and husband, Tim of Lilesville and Ronald W. "Ronnie" Chewning, Jr. of Wadesboro; his grandson, James Gibson and wife, Rosie of Fayetteville; 4 great-grandchildren and his sister, Shelby Chewning Curtis of Chesterfield, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Williams Chewning, his daughter, Angie Gibson, his sister, Peggy Rodgers and his beloved dog, Robbie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 7080 Stanback Ferry Rd., Lilesville, NC 28091. The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home.
