Spofford McRae "Mack" Davis

          WADESBORO - On Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Mr. Spofford McRae "Mack" Davis, 96, passed away at Atrium Health Anson in Wadesboro. 

           There will be a memorial service at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 10, 2024, at First Baptist Church, Wadesboro with Dr. Fred Senter officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Anson Memorial Park. 

           The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. 

            Mack was born February 16, 1928, in Anson County, NC, and was a son of the late Henry Spofford Davis and the late Elsie McRae Davis. He was a graduate of Lilesville High School and a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. 

             An avid baseball fan and excellent player, he played for two semi-pro baseball teams in Wadesboro, The Wade Flannels and the Wadesboro City Baseball Team. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. 

             Mack was a long-time and faithful member of First Baptist Church, Wadesboro where he served as an usher, served on the property committee, and a member of the Special Interest Sunday School Class. 

              For more than 65 years, Mack owned and operated Mack Davis Repair Service, retiring at age 90. He was a volunteer fireman with the Wadesboro Fire Department from 1947 until 1971 and served as Chief from 1971 until 1985. 

              In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Faulkner Davis, and by his sisters, Irene Seago and Helen Faulkner. 

              Those left to cherish is memory are his close and special friend of 14 years, Arvonia Edwards of Wadesboro, and his nieces and nephews and their families from both the Davis and Faulkner families. 

             In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 423, Wadesboro, NC 28170.
