Penrose - Tony Franklin Meachum, 63, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

Tony is preceded in death by his parents, James and Betty Jo Meachum; and his brothers, Ashley and Ron Meachum.
Born in Wadesboro, NC on June 20, 1959, Tony was the first of four sons of James Franklin Meachum and Betty Jo Newsome.

After graduating high school in 1977, he pursued a career as a teacher and principal, earning his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1982 and his Master of Science in Education in 1990. At the beginning of his career, Tony served the Guilford County School System as a middle school teacher, assistant principal, and principal. In 2006, Tony moved to Brevard, serving as the Assistant Principal at Brevard Middle School for two years and Principal of T. C. Henderson Elementary School for eight years, until his retirement in 2016. Tony’s love of children and education knew no bounds.

Tony married his wife, Ellen, in 1983, and together they had two sons: Tyler and Spencer. In addition to being a loving husband and father, Tony was also a jokester, a pun aficionado, an avid Vikings and Tarheels fan, a gym enthusiast, a devoted Christian, and an inspirational friend to all. His genuine kindness never ceased and he will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Meachum; his son, Spencer Meachum; his son, Tyler, daughter-in-law, Mariah, and granddaughter, Lorraine Meachum; his brother, Barry Meachum; his nephews and nieces, Chance, Mandy, Noah, and Abbey Meachum, Stevie, Skylar, Carson, and Cathrine Adams and Mia and Nina Gilmore; and bonus children, Drake and Cindy Davis, and Nate Whited.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Biltmore Baptist Church, Brevard Campus, on Sunday, 12/4/2022, at 3pm.
