Truby Frank Gaddy

WADESBORO – On Sunday, January 25, 2026, Mr. Truby Frank Gaddy, 77, passed away peacefully with his loving and devoted wife and fur baby, Daisy at his bedside. Truby was courageous following the news of his diagnosis, just 6 days before his passing, and made sure everyone knew he was at peace and wanted his wife taken care of.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, January 30, 2026 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Mr. Ken Caulder officiating. Interment will follow in Peachland Cemetery with military honors.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Truby was born in Union County, NC, on February 21, 1948, and was a son of the late Julius Frank Gaddy and the late Alice Ruth Hasty Gaddy. He attended Forst Hills High School and South Piedmont Community College, formerly Anson Technical College.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam War. Truby was active in combat during the war and was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star with V Device, which is the U.S. Armed Forces' fourth-highest combat award, specifically recognizing heroic acts performed during, or in connection with, direct combat operations against an enemy. It signifies valor above what is expected, distinguished from the Meritorious Service Bronze Star.

Truby worked with Duff Norton in Wadesboro, which is now Coffing Hoists, as an assembler.

He enjoyed working in the yard and spending time with his wife and their fur babies.

Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Kathryn Stegal Gaddy; their fur babies, Daisy and Snowball; his sisters, Lois Watkins and Janice Laney (Erby), both of Marshville,  and his brother-in-law, Bobby Stegall of Peachland, who was like a brother to him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers, Linda Faye Baldwin, Infant Mabel Ruth Gaddy, and James Harvey Gaddy; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ralph and Ruth “Billie” Stegal,l and his brother-in-law, James Stegall.

Truby’s family is most grateful to the staff at McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe for the loving way in which they cared for him and supported Kathryn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friends of the Anson County Animal Shelter, Attn: Stephanie Phiffer, PO Box 117, Marshville, NC 28103, or to Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110.
