WADESBORO - On Sunday, May 4, 2025, our beloved mother, Verna Michael McCaskill, 83, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Wadesboro Church of God with Rev. Sam Abee officiating.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Verna was born November 29, 1941, the daughter of the late Lavern Samuel Michael and the late Martha Elizabeth Brown Michael. Although she was an only child, she always had cousins and friends around to play with. She attended high school in Roxborough, PA, where she graduated.
She spent her summers at her grandparents' home in Berkeley Springs, WV.
In 1971, she met and married George McCaskill. When they moved to Wadesboro in 1974, she enrolled in nursing school at Anson Technical College, earning a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1976. She worked as an LPN mainly in long-term care facilities, having spent a lot of her career at Wadesboro Health and Rehab, which was formerly Ambassador Health and Wadesboro Nursing Home. She retired in 2012 due to declining health.
She cared for many people over the years and many of those family members still remember the loving care she gave them. She taught many people the value of hard work.
Verna attended the Wadesboro Church of God, where she was very active in the choir, taught Sunday School, and Children's church. She loved God and always knew that when she died, she would spend eternity in Heaven.
She is survived by her loving family; her children, Michael, Pam, Martha, and Ellen (Slim); her grandchildren, Katelyn (Storm), Aaron (Alexus), Zach, Hunter (Nicole), Nikki, Rosie, Christopher, Payton, Karysyn, Blake, Ryver, and Rylan; and her step=mother, Lois.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wadesboro Church of God, 809 N. Greene St., Wadesboro, NC 28170, or Tillery Compassionate Care, 960 North First St., Albemarle, NC 28001.
The arrangements are in care of Leavitt Funeral Home, and online condolences may be made at www.leavittfh.com
