MT. GILEAD - On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Mr. Vernon Eugene Mullis, 77, passed away peacefully at his home.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Sunday, May 17, 2026, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Barry Gerald officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park with Military Honors.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Vernon was born April 19, 1949, in Anson County, NC and was a son of the late Zeb Mullis and the late Dessie Louise Carpenter Mullis. He was a graduate of Anson High School and received an associate degree from Anson Technical College, which is now South Piedmont Community College.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Vernon had a long and successful career with Windstream Communications, formerly, Alltel and retired with 38 years of service.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife of 18 years, Revonda Chappell Mullis; his children, Michael Mullis (Nikki) of N. Las Vegas, NV, Lisa Lott (Justin) of New Bern; Adam Lucas (Jamila) of Mt. Gilead and Kris Lucas of Havelock; his grandchildren, Hayvin Mullis, MacKeon Mullis ,Wyatt Mullis and Nevaeh Lucas; his brothers, Charles Mullis (Mary Barrow) of Stoneville and Randy Mullis of Peachland; his sister-in-law, Val Mullis of Lilesville; his brothers-in-law, Randy Chappell (Tammy) of Mt. Gilead and Phillip Chappell (Sharon) of Rock Hill, SC and his nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sister, Donald Mullis, Barry Mullis and Gracie Mullis.
Vernon enjoyed taking care of his 1957 Chevy and 1964 Impala Super Sport. He often attended car shows, riding motorcycles, watching racing, both NASCAR and Drag Racing, looking for antiques, sharing time with his family and friends and going to church on Sunday.
