Virginia Dare Morris Marsh, 95, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2026. Born on April 16, 1931 to the late Luther and Mary Morris, Dare was raised in Morven, NC and was an accomplished student at Morven High School, earning an invitation to the Beta Club.
Mrs. Marsh married Joseph J. Marsh in 1949. They were married sixty-seven years at the time of his death on September 24, 2016.
Dare lived a remarkable life, characterized by deep devotion to her family, her church and the local arts community. She was “Ginny” to her beloved husband, “Mama” to her children and “Nonnie” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dare leaves behind a profound legacy through her family who brought her immense pride and joy: sons, David Glenn (Emily) Marsh, Douglas (Susan) Marsh, daughters Dinah Dare (Graham) Edwards, Dee Dee (Dave) Evans and daughter in law, Kaye Bunch Marsh. In addition to her children, Dare is survived by her grandchildren David Marsh, Courtney Edwards (Randy) Lowell, Joseph (Michelle) Marsh, Haley Evans (Dillon) Webster, Mary Dare Evans (Blake) Brown, Hannah Marsh (Dylan) Kidd, Rachel Marsh (Michael) Bunda and Rebecca Marsh (Hunter) Cannon and great grandchildren Alex, Samantha, Gavin, Colton, Natalie Dare, Annabelle, Graham, George, Rhett, Evans, Grayson, Cade and Jackson.
Mrs. Marsh is also survived by her sister Adgie James and brother “Bo” Morris and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Dare was predeceased by her loving husband, Joe Marsh, son Daniel B. “Dan” Marsh, granddaughter Christy R. Marsh, sisters Nan Jacobsen, Juanita Moody and Sue Evans Gilbert, and brothers Ben Morris and Sonny Morris.
Dare was always ready with a comforting hug, wise advice and abundant unconditional love.
She was known for her spirited nature and sense of humor. She never met a stranger. Dare created cherished memories for her family through her art work, family dinners, birthday parties, beach vacations and her annual Christmas Eve Party. She enjoyed time with her friends in the Red Hat Society, Book Club and art classes.
Mrs. Marsh was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed visits from the Nurture Teams.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate a long and beautiful life. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. in the Parlor of the First United Methodist Church, Cheraw. The funeral service be at 2:00 p.m., with burial to follow in St. David’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be made to the General Fund of the First United Methodist Church, 117 Third Street, Cheraw, SC, 29520.
