Wayne Morton, Sr.

LILESVILLE Mr. William Wayne Morton, Sr., 76, died Monday, June 25, 2018 at his home. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Fall Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Arnold Jackson and Rev. Tony Hancock officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at the funeral home and other times at the home. Wayne was born June 2, 1942 in Anson County, NC a son of the late Floyd Morton and the late Addie Bumgarner Morton. He was a graduate of Anson High School, had worked with W.R. Bonsal in Lilesville for 28 years and later owned and operated Wayne Morton Trucking. He was a member of Fall Branch Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. His great-grandfather, Rev. Patrick Seago started Fall Branch Church in 1915. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Martha Burr Morton; his sons, William Wayne Morton, Jr. (Erica) of Lilesville and Curtis Robert Morton (Linda) of Fork, SC; his grandchildren, Courtney Morton, Amber Morton and Austin Morton all of Lilesville and Laython Morton of Fork, SC; his brother and sisters, Tommy Morton (Teresa) and Sue McElroy both of Lilesville, Barbara (Bill) Thantham of Clyde and Doris Mauldin of Norwood; a special niece, Angie Martin of Lilesville and Elizabeth Morton of Lilesville who Wayne loved like a daughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Threadgill Also surviving are his Burr family, M.A. Burr (Evelyn) of Easley, SC, L.W. Burr of Lexington, David "Tad" Burr and Lillie Morton (Roy Steeler) both of Lilesville, Frank Burr (Carolyn) of Burlington and Mary Evans of Wadesboro. Among Wayne's favorite pastimes was racing, fishing and old cars. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fall Branch Baptist Church, 2248 Ingram Mountain Rd., Lilesville, NC 28091.
