WADESBORO – Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s peace. I Peter 4:10
On Friday, June 26, 2026, Mr. William Clayton “Billy” Webb, III, 68, passed away at his home.
Billy was born December 21, 1957, in Anson County, NC, and was a son of Blanche Switzer Webb and the late William Clayton Webb, Jr. He was a 1976 graduate of Bowman High School and attended North Carolina State University.
As a child, Billy had a gift for baseball, pitching a no-hitter for Lilesville Little League at 10 years old. Later, he was a walk-on player at North Carolina State. While at NC State, he was part of the United States Army JROTC and completed Airborne training at Ft. Benning, GA. When he left NC State, he was honorably discharged from the United States Army.
He developed a gift for working on cars, encouraged by his father, William Webb. By the age of two, Billy was able to assist his Dad with all mechanical repairs. He purchased his first car, a 1957 Chevy, at age 14 and worked two to three jobs to maintain and build it. His expertise became diagnostic repair, and he operated a successful auto business in Auburndale, FL. However, the highlight of his automotive career was working with Cy Earnhardt of Panther and Richard Childress Racing to prepare engine blocks for race days.
A beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend to many, Billy returned home to Anson County in 2011. Here he developed more fully his greatest gift, that of helping others. He will be dearly missed.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife of 43 years, Barbara Winfree Webb; his mother, Blanche Webb of Wadesboro; his sister and brothers, Sharon Belcher (John) and Jimmy Webb (fiancé, Rose Arrowood) of both of Lilesville, and Frank Webb (Karen) of Norwood; and his nieces and nephews and their families.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Samaritan Colony, 136 Samaritan Dr., Rockingham, NC 28379.
