He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Vietnam War. He was an accomplished carpenter and cabinet builder.

Lonnie was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, and believed in all things family. He loved spending time with them and celebrating all their accomplishments and activities. Among his favorite pastimes with his grandchildren included camping, fishing and attending their sporting events.
He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Gore Thompson; his daughter April Hoover (Mark) of Monroe and son-in-law Randy Mullis of Peachland; his grandchildren, Michael Bishop (Becca) of Surfside Beach, SC, Makayla Bishop of Monroe, Nathan Fulks and Callie Thompson both of Peachland; his brothers, Eugene Thompson (Sue) of Moore, OK, Larry Thompson (Jan) of Jacksonville, FL and sister Lawanda Wilson (Garry) of Monterey, TN; his mother-in-law, Janis Gore of Crossville, TN; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda Bennett and Kevin Gore both of Crossville, TN and his nieces and nephews and their families.
