POLKTON  -  On Wednesday, July 27, 2022, Mr. Thomas Anderson "Tommy" Turner, 76, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior at his home in the Burnsville Community.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, August 1, 2022, at Rocky River Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Stegall and Rev. Donald Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

​The family will greet friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday, July 31, 2022, at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home.

​Tommy was born December 10, 1945, in Stanly County, NC and was a son of the late James Jennings Turner and the late Margie Lee Thomas Turner. He was a graduate of Anson High School and had served with the National Guard.

 

​He was a well-known businessman in the community, having owned and operated Tommy’s Truck Retreading for 40 years. He and his brother were also farmers, having raised cattle and grew row crops.

​A life-long member of Rocky River Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and was faithful to the ministries of the church.

​A devoted and loving family man, he leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 53 years, Trudy Baucom Turner; his sons and daughters-in-law, Andy and Sally Turner of Stanfield and Paul and Allyson Turner of Monroe; his grandchildren, Grant Jordan and fiancé’, Sydnie, Palmer Turner, Olivia Jordan, Anniston Turner, and Eva Jordan all of Monroe and Reese Turner of Stanfield; his sister, Fran Thomas of Polkton; his sisters-in-law, Mary Turner and Sharon Cullingford both of Polkton and his nephews and nieces and their families.

​In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ward Turner, his brother-in-law, Lynn Thomas, and his mother-in-law, Polly Efird.

​Tommy will be remembered for his kindness and generosity to his family and friends and for being a man of faith. His family and friends are comforted in knowing he has been given a glorified body and await a promised reunion for those who know the Lord.

​In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Rocky River Baptist Church, 297 Rocky River Church Rd, Polkton, NC 28135 or to Burnsville Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue, 13380 NC-742, Polkton, NC 28135.
